America’s Oldest WWII Veteran Has 111th Birthday

Richard Overton was born on May 11, 1906, that’s 111 years ago. He served as a corporal in an all-black battalion during the second world war.

His secret to living a long life? Chain smoking cigars, drinking a bit of whiskey with his morning coffee, eating fried catfish, and peanut butter ice cream.

“If man had [control over longevity], I’d have been dead, but God’s got it, and he’s keeping me well,” Overton said at a ceremony at the Arlington National Cemetery in November back in 2007.

Even though this video is a couple years old, it still showcases how great Richard is.
